Preparation For The Interview

This may give you an advantage over the other candidates applying for the position as they may not take the time and effort to do their research thoroughly. Some of the things you can do to do this are:

Use the Internet, in particular the company website if they have one, and using search engines to find other information and articles about the company you are interested in.
Make sure you know exactly what the job really is and what you will be expected to do - in other words fully comprehend the job description and requirements.
Go out of your way to obtain everything you can from marketing/advertising information to annual reports and accounts on the company.

Match yourself correctly to the vacancy on offer.

Go back to the description of the vacancy and make a complete list of the work involved and what you will be expected to do. Then list all your skills, experience and qualities you can actually bring to meet the task you will be dealing with. With this be sure to include the benefits of your skills etc, that you brought to a previous employer in meeting similar tasks. Don't ramble on about your life history and anecdotes, but a few real life stories especially if they include your achievements are more likely to place you in the potential employers memory.

Get used to talking about yourself.

You will need to be ready to talk albeit briefly about your history in the work and education place. Give the reasons for the choices you have made. Education, career choices and changes you have gone through. Make sure you have fully thought this out beforehand - so that any negatives can be presented in a positive way to the employer.

Make sure you are positive in your approach. Never, ever criticize or point out the inadequacies of any former employers or management.
